Launch of the nanoONYX-CAN in-vehicle computer with CAN

Press release

ECRIN Systems announces the launch of the nanoONYX-CAN, a ruggedised embedded controller designed to meet the requirements of systems incorporating CAN buses in challenging environments.

Part of the nanoONYX range, this ultra-compact, fanless system is specifically tailored for embedded applications in vehicles, drones and autonomous platforms. It ensures reliable, real-time communication between sensors, actuators and embedded control units (ECUs) within distributed architectures.

The nanoONYX-CAN incorporates up to 8 CAN interfaces, offering multi-bus management capabilities essential for complex systems. Based on Intel® Atom™ or Intel® Core™ processors, it combines computing performance with controlled power consumption, whilst enabling the execution of critical embedded applications.

Designed for harsh environments, it is qualified to DO-160, MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461 standards, guaranteeing resistance to vibration, shock and extreme conditions. Its fanless design enhances its reliability in confined and constrained embedded environments.

Thanks to its modular architecture and expandability, the nanoONYX-CAN integrates easily into embedded systems requiring specific interfaces, whilst ensuring long-term sustainability and lifecycle management.

An on-board CAN controller optimised for critical vehicles and systems

The nanoONYX-CAN is part of a major market trend: the proliferation of interconnected embedded systems within vehicles. In these architectures, the CAN bus plays a central role by ensuring robust, deterministic and fault-tolerant communication between the various electronic components.

In this context, a ruggedised embedded controller is no longer limited to simply running applications. It becomes a strategic node in the system, capable of simultaneously managing multiple critical data streams whilst ensuring controlled latency.

The nanoONYX-CAN addresses these challenges precisely by combining:

  • native multi-bus CAN connectivity
  • suitable on-board computing power
  • certified environmental robustness
  • optimised integration in constrained environments

This approach makes it particularly well-suited to next-generation embedded systems, where communication reliability is as critical as computing performance.

Easier integration into constrained embedded environments

Embedded systems in vehicles – whether land, air or sea-based – face significant challenges: limited space, lack of ventilation, vibrations and temperature fluctuations.

Thanks to its ultra-compact form factor and passive cooling, the nanoONYX-CAN can be integrated directly alongside equipment, reducing cable lengths and improving the overall robustness of the system.

Its use of robust connectors and fanless architecture make it a solution particularly suited to enclosed and critical environments.
