ONYX-Ultra is a high-performance rugged mission computer designed for mission-critical embedded applications requiring computing performance, graphics processing, video acquisition and high-speed network connectivity within a single rugged platform.
Part of the ONYX rugged computer family, the system combines an Intel® Core™ i7-13800HRE Raptor Lake-P 14-core processor, 64GB DDR5 4800MHz IBECC memory, TPM 2.0 and extensive I/O expansion capabilities.
ONYX-Ultra is designed for demanding defense, aerospace, land and naval mission systems requiring a compact rugged computer capable of integrating processing, graphics, video and networking functions.
Applications requiring additional graphics or parallel computing resources can use the onboard MXM 3.1 Type A/B expansion slot, supporting NVIDIA® AD2000 and AD3500 GP-GPUs.
This allows CPU computing, graphics acceleration, AI workloads and image processing functions to be combined within the same rugged mission computer.
An additional M.2 slot for an AI accelerator board further extends the processing capabilities of the platform.
ONYX-Ultra is also designed for embedded video acquisition and processing applications.
A dedicated XMC slot supports a video capture card providing:
Video acquisition can therefore be integrated directly with the CPU and GPU processing resources available within the rugged computer.
The platform provides one DVI-D output from the CPU and up to two additional DVI-D outputs when an MXM GPU module is installed.
Mission systems frequently require high-bandwidth communications between sensors, embedded equipment, processing systems and platform networks.
ONYX-Ultra provides:
This 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity complements the system's computing and video-processing capabilities for applications handling large volumes of mission data.
ONYX-Ultra combines native connectivity with several expansion possibilities for application-specific I/O.
Two QMC expansion slots are available:
Additional native interfaces include 2x RS-232, 2x RS-422, 3x USB 2.0, 1x USB 3.0/2.0 through USB-C, three isolated general-purpose inputs and two isolated general-purpose outputs.
The combination of native interfaces and expansion slots enables the rugged computer to interface with sensors, video systems, networking equipment and other embedded subsystems.
ONYX-Ultra integrates two M.2 S80 SATA storage devices:
The removable SSD provides easier access when the storage device needs to be removed or replaced. The backup battery is also accessible for maintenance operations.
Hardware monitoring covers internal voltages as well as CPU and carrier-board temperatures. A programmable watchdog timer can generate a system RESET.
ONYX-Ultra is engineered for applications where conventional computing hardware cannot withstand environmental constraints.
The enclosure is IP65 rated and uses MIL-DTL-38999 connectors. Thermal management combines convection, radiation through cooling fins and internal conduction cooling. A fan kit can be added depending on system power consumption.
Operating temperature ranges from -40°C to +55°C without external airflow, depending on configuration and power consumption.
The platform is designed according to DO-160, MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461 environmental requirements covering constraints such as shock, vibration and electromagnetic compatibility.
ONYX-Ultra operates from a nominal +28VDC power input, with an input range from +14VDC to +36VDC.
Integrated Hold-Up capacitors provide 120 ms protection against momentary power interruptions.
System power consumption ranges from 60 to 125W depending on the selected Bill of Material.
By combining CPU computing, optional GPU acceleration, HD-SDI video acquisition, 10GbE fiber networking and flexible I/O expansion, ONYX-Ultra addresses embedded Control, Command, Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance – C4ISR applications.
It provides a rugged computing platform for air, land and sea mission systems requiring processing, video, networking and application-specific I/O within a single compact system.
