ECRIN Systems launches ONYX-Ultra, its new multi-mission rugged mission computer

Crolles, France – September 28, 2026 – ECRIN Systems announces the launch of ONYX-Ultra, a new rugged mission computer designed to address the increasing computing, graphics, video acquisition and high-speed networking requirements of mission-critical embedded systems.

Designed for airborne, land and naval applications, ONYX-Ultra expands ECRIN Systems’ rugged computing portfolio with a compact platform combining CPU processing, GPU acceleration, HD-SDI video acquisition and 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity within a single system.

Developed for Control, Command, Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance applications, ONYX-Ultra bridges the gap between traditional rugged mission computers and VPX-based HPEC architectures. The objective is to provide a high-performance computing platform that is easier to integrate into embedded systems while retaining a rugged design suitable for harsh environments.

A platform built around computing, video and connectivity

ONYX-Ultra is based on an Intel® Raptor Lake-P Core™ i7-13800HRE 14-core processor, combined with 64 GB DDR5 4800 MHz IBECC memory and TPM 2.0.

For applications requiring additional graphics or parallel computing resources, the platform can integrate an NVIDIA RTX™ AD2000 or AD3500 GPU in MXM 3.1 Type A/B format. A dedicated M.2 slot is also available for the integration of an AI accelerator board.

Video processing is another key feature of the new architecture. Through its dedicated XMC expansion slot, ONYX-Ultra can integrate a video capture card supporting four HD-SDI inputs, or a configuration combining two 3G-SDI inputs and two HD-SDI inputs.

This capability makes it possible to combine video acquisition, processing and exploitation within a single mission computing platform, particularly for systems using embedded cameras and video sensors.

Up to two 10 GbE fiber-optic interfaces

To support the transfer of large volumes of data between sensors, computers and other subsystems, ONYX-Ultra features two 10GBase-SR fiber-optic interfaces, with 10GBase-LR available on request, as well as three Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.

The platform also provides extensive configuration flexibility through several expansion options:

  • two QMC slots for additional I/O;
  • one XMC slot, particularly suited to HD-SDI video acquisition;
  • one MXM slot for GPU integration;
  • one M.2 slot for an AI accelerator;
  • RS-232 and RS-422 interfaces;
  • USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 interfaces;
  • isolated general-purpose inputs and outputs.

This modular architecture enables the system configuration to be adapted to the specific interfaces and integration constraints of each programme.

Designed for mission-system integration

Beyond computing performance, particular attention has been paid to system integration and maintenance requirements.

ONYX-Ultra integrates two M.2 S80 SATA SSD devices, including one removable drive. The backup battery is also accessible without fully disassembling the computer, helping simplify field maintenance operations and reduce maintenance time.

The system also monitors internal voltages as well as CPU and carrier-board temperatures and includes a programmable watchdog timer.

With dimensions of 280 × 284 × 125 mm, including connectors and excluding the optional fan unit, and a weight below 10 kg, ONYX-Ultra combines its computing and interface capabilities within a compact format suited to embedded platforms subject to space and integration constraints.

Engineered for harsh environments

ONYX-Ultra features a rugged mechanical and thermal design based on internal conduction cooling, combined with convection and radiation through the chassis fins. A fan unit can be integrated when required by the power consumption of the selected configuration.

The system uses MIL-DTL-38999 connectors, provides an IP65 ingress protection rating and is designed to operate from -40°C to +55°C without external airflow, depending on system power consumption.

ONYX-Ultra is CE compliant and qualified according to DO-160, MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461 environmental requirements. Documented qualification testing includes temperature, altitude, humidity, salt fog, sand and dust, shock, vibration and electromagnetic compatibility requirements.

The system operates from a nominal +28 VDC input, with an operating range from +14 VDC to +36 VDC. A Hold-Up function provides 120 ms protection against momentary power interruptions. System power consumption ranges from 60 W to 125 W depending on the selected configuration.

A new platform within the ONYX family

With ONYX-Ultra, ECRIN Systems expands its ONYX rugged computing range with a platform designed for the latest generation of mission systems combining high-performance computing, graphics acceleration, video processing and high-speed communications.

Its ability to combine Intel® CPU processing, NVIDIA® GPU acceleration, HD-SDI acquisition, 10 GbE fiber networking and configurable I/O expansion makes it suitable for applications including C4ISR systems, surveillance and reconnaissance platforms, embedded video processing and mission systems requiring local processing of large volumes of data.

ONYX-Ultra is now available for integration into new mission-critical embedded system programmes and projects.
